Currency

The local currency is the “Ethiopian Birr”, made up of 100 cents. Credit cards, Visa, MasterCard, Access, American Express and Diners Club are not widely accepted except in a few establishments in the cities. Cash and travellers cheques are recommended.

The coin is legal tender in Ethiopia is the Birr (ETB). € 1 = Change 23:00 Birr (update to 13.03.12).And $ 1, change 17:83 Birr. The currencies in Ethiopia are the recommended U.S. Dollars and Euros: are accepted almost everywhere in the capital. Traveller's checks are accepted only on the banks of some importance. For any eventuality cash is the quickest way to get what you need. Bring Fuzz, since the money in the most remote villages is physically non-existent and no one will give change. In addition, the large bills are viewed with suspicion: the same bank branches do not have the means to verify its authenticity.

1 ETB = 100 cents
ETB notes: 1 - 5 - 10 - 50 - 100
Coins: pennies from 1 to 5 - 10 - 25 -50 to 1birr

CURRENCY REGULATIONS IN FORCE IN ETHIOPIA:
It allowed the import of local currency up to value of 100 Birr. There are no restrictions on the importation of foreign currency, provided declared on entry into the country.
It allowed the export of local currency to 200 Birr, and export of foreign currency up to the amount imported and declared on arrival.
It's a good idea to keep receipts of exchange that are necessary for the eventual conversion of local currency into foreign currency.
