COMBINATION TOUR TO SOUTH & NORTH

Program: Historic and Culture
Tour Duration: 18 days/17 Nights

01.SAT. Arrive with Ethiopian airlines.Beginning of the tour in Addis Ababa. Morning free. Afternoon (1300 hrs from the hotel) tour of the capital: visit Entoto mountains with views over the capital, the National museum, St George church. ON (overnight) chosen hotel.
02. Fly to Axum, & visit the steles, St Mary of Tsion church, the bath & the palace of Queen of Sheba. Lunch. Drive to the Yeha temple, DebreDamo monastery and proceed to Hawsen or Adigrat. ON Gheralta lodge Hawsen (or htl in Adigrat)
03. Visit Tigray rock churches, as Degum Selassie, Abreha We Atsbeha & Wikro Cherkos (or option could be also Medhanealem Adikesho, Michael MahalZenghie & Petros Paulos). ON Axum htl or similar in Mekele.
04. Drive to Lalibela, admiring spectacular views. We’ll drive via Ambalagi, Alamata, Kobo, Woldya, Dild & the Tekeze river valley, with very nice views and admiring different ethnic groups as the Tigray, Azebo/ Raya, Afar (with luck around Woldya) & Wollo people. With luck spot also the endemic Gelada Baboons around Dild. Lunch box; dinner & ON hotels.
05. Full day visit of the rock-hewn churches in Lalibela, defined as the 8th wonder in the world. Churches built in the 12th century; the African Jerusalem. Meals & ON htl
06. Morning visit Naktuleab cave church. Proceed then driving to Gondar, city of castles of the 16th century, crossing very nice views admiring the Semien mountains at the north (around Gaynt) & the Historical site of DebreTabor, Ethiopian capital during Emperor Tewodros IV (19th century). Cross Fogera valley, one of the most fertile in Ethiopia, with rice and many other farms. Reach late afternoon Gondar. Lunch on the way; dinner & ON htl in Gondar
07. Morning tour of Gondar, visiting the castle’s compound & King Fasiladas bath, the Debre Birhan Sellasie church (light of Trinity) with wonderful murals and Empress Mentewab palace. Lunch. Then drive to Bahirdar. Dinner & ON htl
08. Morning drive to admire the Blue Nile falls. Lunch back to Bahirdar. Afternoon boat trip on lake Tana to admire the beautiful monasteries over the lake’s islands, as Asua Mariam and Ura Kidane Mehret, with also the visit of an Amhara people village & coffee plantations. ON htl in Bahirdar (if evening flight available, fly Addis Ababa)
09.SUN. Fly to Addis Ababa. Drive to Arbaminch, admiring on the way the Guraghe + Wolayta people & villages and spectacular views. Dinner & ON hotel.
10. Morning boat on Chamo lake for crocodiles, hippos and birds. Then walk to the Netch Sar National park to see spectacular views. See different animals, as the endemic Swaynes Hartebeest, numerous zebras, lesser kudu, dik-dik, Kori Bustard, and more. Lunch. The vehicles will reach you; make a game drive and then drive back to Arbaminch. If time permits visit also the 40 springs, from which Arbaminch’s name derives. Dinner & ON hotel.
11. Drive to Jinka, admiring the Konso, Derase, Tsemay, Ari and Benna people on the way. Visit a Konso people village, which are famous for the terracing agriculture, and have particular way of life and traditions. Lunch on the way; dinner & ON Jinka in htl 12. Enter into the Mago National park, admiring different mammals and birds on the way; and proceed to visit the Mursi people and villages. Here for beauty women use to put round plates into their lips. Lunch on the way; afternoon back Jinka. Visit the Jinka museum and walks to visit the town. ON in htl
13. Drive to Turmi, admiring Thursday KeyAfer village market of Tsemay & Erbore people. Proceed to visit the Hamer people. If lucky in the evening admire one of their dances: the Evangadi. Dinner & ON Lodge
14. Drive to visit the Karo people, for their very interesting decoration and scarification all over their body; and very nice views over Omo river from Kortcho village. Visit then the Nyangatom people crossing the Omo river with small boats at Kangate. Back late afternoon to Turmi. With luck we’ll try also to participate to the Hamer people marriage ceremonies, with the bull jumping & more. Lunch on the way; dinner & ON lodge
15. SAT. Drive to Dimeka village, to participate to the very colorful Hamer, Karo and Dassanech people market at Dimeka village. Ones the market is done visit in the region some very interesting Hamer people villages to understand their culture and try to look with luck for Hamer people marriages & dances ceremonies. ON Turmi
16. Drive to the Erbore people and visit their villages & culture. Then cross the Weyto river valley, to the Konso people (if their village not visited on day 04, can be done now). Proceed to Arbaminch. Lunch on the way; dinner & ON  htl.
17. Drive to Chencha, for the Dorze people, with their unique culture, houses, and traditions. Then proceed to the Rift Valley lake of Langano, at the Wenney eco-lodge, secluded in a natural paradise at shore of lake Langano and near to Munessa forest. Possibility of trekking, bird-watching, horse-riding, boat excursion, cycling, and more.
18.TUE. Drive back to Addis. Afternoon visit the Mercato, biggest open air market in Africa. Dinner traditional restaurant with folkloristic dances. Evening departure [we also suggest extension to another tour in Ethiopia, or to the parks in Sudan or Kenya or the fantastic beaches in Djibouti or Somali land.

03. Drive to Gondar. Then visit the castle’s compound, Debre Birhan Sellasie church (light of Trinity) with wonderful murals, King Fasiladas bath & Empress Mentewab palace. Meals & ON htl in Gondar.
04. Fly to Lalibela. Afternoon visit the 1st group of the rock-hewn churches. Meals and ON Htl.
05. Morning visit one of the churches out of the town. We propose an excursion by mules to the Asheten Mariam church, with spectacular views too. Or by car to the cave church of Naktuleab. Afternoon remaining churches in Lalibela.
06. Fly Axum. Visit the steles, St Mary of Tsion church (where legend says the Ark of Covenant is deposited), the bath & palace of Queen of Sheba. Meals and ON in hotel
07. Fly to Addis. Drive to Langano Rift Valley lake. Possibility of trekking, bird-watching, horse-riding, cycling.
08. Drive through the Wolayta people & villages and admiring spectacular green hills, to Chencha, for the Dorze people, with their unique culture, houses, and traditions. Visit also the very colorful SAT market. Dinner & ON htl.
09. Drive to Turmi, admiring on the way the Konso, Derase, Tsemay & Hamer people. ON Lodge
10.MON. Morning excursion to Dassanech people villages at Omorate, at bank of Omo river. Then back Turmi for the monday very colorful Hamer, Karo and Dassanech people market. Then visit the Hamer people and their villages. With luck we’ll try also to participate to their marriage ceremonies, with the bull jumping. And if lucky see one of their dances: the Evangadi. ON Lodge.

03. AM drive to Chencha for Dorze people. PM boat trip on Chamo Lake. O/N Arba Minch
04 Drive to Jinka, by admiring Konso, Derase, Ari, Benna and Tsemay people. O/N camp or local hotel Jinka town.
05. Visit the Mursi people and villages. O/N Mago park camp.
06. Enter into the Karo people region and visit their village of Kortcho and Duss; with beautiful view over the Omo River too. O/N camp Murulle or Duss.
07. Continue for the Hammer people region & O/N lodge.
08. Turmi, for villages, dance, possibly market & marriage ceremonies.
09. Excursion to Omorate, at the banks of Omo River, for Dassanech tribes & villages. Back for O/N Turmi.
10. Drive through Tsemay and Erbore people to the Konso villages. O/N Konso local hotel or camp.
11. Enter into Borena people region and afternoon visit ElSOD crater (where down the crater Borena men extract salt for their cattle), Borena villages and more. O/N Yabelo local htl.
12. Crossing Guji people region and very nice views drive to the Rift Valley lake of Awasa. O/N htl.
13. Morning visit the fish market, and then drive back to Addis Ababa, by admiring the Rift Valley lakes of Shala, Abyata and Langano, Afternoon free in Addis.
14. Drive north to Kombolcha, admiring Afar and Oromo people.
15. Drive Lalibela.
16. Full day visit of the 11 rock-hewn churches in Lalibela.
17. Fly Axum. Afternoon tour of steles, churches, archeological sites.
18. Drive to Gondar, crossing the spectacular Semien mountains.
19. Morning tour of Gondar’s castles and churches. Afternoon drive Bahirdar.
20. AM Blue Nile falls. PM boat on Tana lake, to admire two monasteries, as Ura Kidane Mehret and Mahal Zeghie Gyorgis
21. Fly back Addis Ababa. Afternoon free.

02. Fly Bahirdar, visit Bezait palace and view over Blue Nile falls and lake Tana. Afternoon boat trip on Tana lake to admire 2-3 monasteries with very interesting construction and paintings, as Ura Kidane Mehret and Mahal Zeghie Gyorgis. 
03. Morning drive to admire the Blue Nile falls, back for lunch. Afternoon drive to Gondar. 
04. In Gondar, visit the castles compound, King Fasil's Bath and Debre Birhan Selassie church (Light of Trinity) with wonderful murals, Qusuqam church, Queen Mentewab palace and more. 
05. Fly Lalibela. Afternoon visit the first group of the rock churches. 
06. Morning, mule excursion to Asheton Mariam, with very nice view through villages. Afternoon the second group of the rock churches. 
07. Fly to Addis and lunch there. Drive to Langano Rift Valley Lake. O/N hotel. 
08. Continue to Arbaminch admiring Wolayta people, their villages and very nice views. Afternoon ascend Chencha hills for the Dorze village to see their culture, work of weavings, cultivation of false banana from which they extract traditional bread (Kotcho), their 18ms high houses and more. Dinner and O/N hotel with spectacular views over the Chamo lake and Abaya lakes and the Neth Sar Park. 
09. Morning Nech Sar park, for an early morning game drive. Here you can see wild animals i.e. dominated by Zebras, it's also possible to see the endemic Swain's heartbeast, greater and lesser kudus, different gazelles and more. Afternoon boat trip over lake Chamo and encounter the huge hippo colonies and biggest crocodiles in Africa(as some says in the world 6-7ms long). Meals and O/N hotel. 
10. Drive to Jinka, on the way admire Derashe, Konso, Ari, Benna and Tsemay tribes with their respective villages. Konso are famous for the agricultural work with terracing culture. O/N Jinka local hotel. 
11. Drive to Mago national park and excursion at Mursi people villages. O/N Mago national park camping. 
12. Cross Karo people region and visit their villages of Kortcho, with also very nice views over Omo river. Drive to Turmi for dinner and O/N Lodge. 
13. Visit Hammer people villages, culture and possibly their dances. If possible we try to show the unique ceremonies of marriage, with slashing of women, bull jumping, and more. If Mon or Sat visit market of Hamer, Karo and Dassanech people here or near by Dimeka's village. 
14. Drive to Arbaminch through Erbore people village and afternoon visit Konso people village. Dinner and O/N hotel. 
15. Drive back to Addis Ababa to reach late afternoon. 
16. Departure.
